What does your Darkest Hour mean to you?

This is part of the 20 questions to close 2020 series. Before you proceed, we recommend you to think about your Darkest Hour and have it in mind.

What does your Darkest Hour mean to you?

Estimated time required: 20 min

This session guides you through a reflection of moments that are associated with negative feelings. If at any moment you feel overwhelmed by negative emotions, maybe you feel your heartbeat raising, breaths getting disrupted, we suggest you to take a pause and do a mindfulness exercise. This helps you bring your focus back to yourself before continuing. Check out this video which is a great guide to a mindfulness meditation.

Life is full of ups and downs. We go through challenges in any ordinary year, not to say such an eventful 2020. Amongst all the challenges you went through, what makes this moment such unique you would consider it the darkest?

Let's take a step back and think about the nature of that moment. Was it an acute incident or an escalation of events? Who else was/were affected besides you?

What was the impact of that moment? Some events only affect one aspect of your life, such as a problem that happened at work. Some events may influence your whole life across dimensions. How broad was the impact of your Darkest Hour?

How did you react to what happened? How much worse could it get if you didn't respond the way you did?

Think about the way you are right now. Your lifestyle, your habits, the way you see things. Comparing these to you before the Darkest Hour, what difference do you observe?

How did you change? Perhaps a change in behavior, perspective or even life style? What caused those changes?

It is amazing that you lived through your Darkest Hour and became who you are right now. Through asking yourself the above questions, try to see what a different person you became after this year. Recognize yourself for how much you have grown.

"Success is not final. Failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts."

--- Winston Churchill
